West Virginia University Hospitals’ Rosenbaum Family House received a first-place award for its “Keeping Love Close When You Need it Most†video at a recent National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses conference in Ashville, N.C. The seven-minute video features former Family House guests and volunteers, as well as staff from WVU Hospitals. It was produced by Pikewood Creative in Morgantown. This is the first time Family House has entered the Association’s Media Award Video Division competition.
“This is not just a video about a building or a charity and how the community can support us,†said Paula Brandfass, director of Family House. “This video truly demonstrates the impact our facility has on the families who stay here.†Rosenbaum Family House provides a home-away-from-home for seriously ill adult patients who are receiving extended treatment at WVU Hospitals or the Mary Babb Randolph Cancer Center. Family members of patients may also stay at the house. The four-story building is connected to Ruby Memorial Hospital for easy access to medical care. Its 26 hotel-style guest rooms and laundry facilities provide privacy and convenience. Two common kitchen areas are fully equipped with appliances and cooking and eating utensils. Lounges provide comfortable relaxation space with access to books, puzzles, videos and games for family enjoyment. Family House opened in 1999 and has served more than 6,400 families from all 50 states and 20 foreign countries.
“The patients and families who stay here become our friends – they become our extended families,†said Brandfass. “We don’t forget about them when they leave, and this shows the bond we have with our guests.†To learn more about Rosenbaum Family House and to view the video, visitwww.wvuhrfh.com.
